Physical Therapy

Physical therapists and physical therapy

assistants assist patient recovery from surgery, injury and disorders of the musculoskeletal and neurological systems. Physical therapists evaluate, diagnose and manage the physical therapy treatment plan, customizing it to each individual patient’s needs.

The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to restore maximal functional independence to each individual patient. To achieve this goal, a variety of exercise interventions, education, functional activities, manual therapy and physical modalities such as heat, cold and electricity are used. It is offered to a wide variety of patients of all ages. Physical therapy is useful in treating many different medical disorders and plays a key role in the rehabilitative process.

Physical therapy services are provided by physical therapists, who are licensed healthcare professionals with an advanced degree in physical therapy and physical therapist assistants.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.

Occupational therapy services include an individualized evaluation, during which the patient/family and occupational therapist determine therapy goals. Customized interventions are used to improve the patient’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals.

Occupational therapy services may include comprehensive evaluations of the client’s home and other environments (e.g., workplace, school), recommendations for adaptive equipment and training in its use, and guidance and education for family members and caregivers.

Occupational therapy services are provided by occupational therapists, who are licensed healthcare professionals with an advanced degree in occupational therapy and occupational therapist assistants.

Vestibular Therapy

Vestibular rehabilitation, an exercise-based program meticulously crafted by our specially trained physical therapists, focuses on enhancing balance and mitigating issues related to dizziness.

Our therapists conduct thorough assessments, examining aspects such as balance, gait, neck motion, and visual stability, in addition to exploring other potential areas of concern. Drawing insights from these evaluations, our skilled physical therapists develop a personalized care plan tailored to diminish the risk of falls and elevate your daily functional abilities.

Rest assured, our commitment is to provide you with a comprehensive and effective vestibular rehabilitation experience.

Who can benefit from vestibular rehabilitation?

Healthcare providers refer people with the following diagnoses for vestibular rehabilitation:

  • Dizziness.
  • Imbalance.
  • Vertigo.
  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
  • Neck-related dizziness and migraines.

People who’ve had a stroke, brain injury or who frequently fall may also benefit from this type of rehabilitation.

What may rehabilitation involve?

Rehabilitation might include the following:

  • Gaze stability exercises.
  • Repositioning maneuvers for positional dizziness.
  • Posture training.
  • Stretching and strengthening exercises.
  • Balance retraining.
  • Gait training.
  • Neck motion exercises.
  • General conditioning exercises.

What types of recovery/outcomes can be expected?

No two exercise treatment plans are exactly alike. Your exercise program is developed based on your individual needs. Continuing your exercise plan at home can help prevent and/or treat problems such as dizziness and imbalance, depending on the type of condition.

Expected vestibular rehabilitation outcomes

The outcomes of rehabilitation can include:

  • Decreased fall risk.
  • Decreased dizziness symptoms.
  • Improved balance.
  • Improved ability to stabilize vision and gaze.
  • Increased body strength.
  • A return to your prior level of movement and function.
  • Increased confidence in your ability to maintain balance.
  • Improved neck motion.
